Biblical Focus: The Faithfulness of God
Philippians 1:6 (NLT)
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
After yesterday's searching examination, you may feel discouraged. You see how far you still have to go. Old patterns persist. Some areas feel unchanged after a full year.
Then hear this: transformation does not finally depend on you. It depends on God, who began it.
Paul is certain. Not hopeful, not optimistic. Certain. Why? Because God does not start projects He does not finish. He began the good work in you. He will continue it. And He will complete it on the day Christ returns.
This does not make you passive. Paul also says, "Work hard to show the results of your salvation" (Philippians 2:12). But the very next verse explains why that work is possible: "For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him" (2:13). Your effort rests on His. You work out what He is working in.
So stop measuring your transformation by the speed of a single year. God sees the whole span of your life, and He is not discouraged by what is still unfinished. The Refiner is still sitting by the fire. The Potter's hands are still on the clay. The Gardener is still tending the vine.
You are not a finished work. But you are a guaranteed one.
The Practice of Transformation
Look back at what you wrote on Day 15. Beside the area of least change, write Philippians 1:6 in full. Each time you feel discouraged this week, read it aloud.
✦ Reflection ✦
Where do you most need to trust that God is not finished with you?
Prayer: Faithful God, You began this work, and You will finish it. I rest in Your certainty, not my progress. Amen.
You are not a finished work, but you are a guaranteed one.
